About Transition Cobham
WHAT IS TRANSITION COBHAM?
We're a community-led, voluntary group working towards a greener and more sustainable Cobham. Transition is about change - transitioning to a more sustainable way of life. The small changes we make may seem insignificant, but when we pull together as a community, we can make a real difference.
WHAT ARE TRANSITION COBHAM'S GOALS?
A greener, healthier, happier way of life
We don't have to put up with excessive waste or pollution when there are better alternatives out there. We can improve public transport; we can reduce waste; we can make Cobham a cleaner, healthier place to live in.
We want people to get more involved with their community and to feel they can make a difference.
WHAT HAS TRANSITION COBHAM DONE SO FAR?
We're actively addressing local concerns such as how to reduce waste, improve public transport and save energy. We have groups which you can join to tackle these.
We've launched local projects such as the Cobham Community Garden, the Reuse Your Bag campaign and the community-run Chatterbus.
WHAT IS THE TRANSITION MOVEMENT?
It was founded to empower communities so that they would be better able to cope with challenges such as climate change, rising energy prices and the economic downturn.
The movement began in the town of Totnes, Devon, but there is now a network of more than 1,100 Transition communities in 44 countries.
