Walks & Footpaths

If you would like more information or would like to join the Walks & Footpaths group, please email David Bellchamber or telephone 01932 866770. Unfortunately all organised walks are now on hold during the current coronavirus crisis.

Cobham has a plethora of footpaths and this group focuses on encouraging people to use them and to discover more about Cobham. It also aims to ensure proper maintenance of the paths.

The group wants to encourage people to use the paths by distributing maps and to promote Healthy Walks such as those organised by Elmbridge Council, Age UK Surrey and Surrey Wildlife Trust. We also organise our own walks. Cobham Heritage have some short walking guides for local paths if you go to https://www.cobhamheritage.org.uk/our-work/projects/footpaths/footpath-walks

Transition Cobham is keen to promote walking whether locally or further afield. For details or to publicise your own walk, contact us here. The inaugural Transition Cobham walk took place on 7th March 2015. We have now had 5 Heritage Walks. We would be pleased to lead walks for small parties around the village of Cobham and along the River Mole explaining the history of the Village.

Elmbridge Borough Council sponsors organised healthy walks and cycle rides. There is a walk taking place nearly every day of the year with walks available for all abilities. Find out more on the Elmbridge Borough Council website. You can even select a walk and add it directly into your diary.      http://bit.ly/2cLrdTO

Age UK Surrey also organise walks for the over 50s. Called GO50, walks are generally a moderate 2 - 5 miles in length but those called “Go further” can be up to 11 miles in length or involve steepish slopes in places and will be taken at a faster pace than GO50 walks - so you will need to be fit!       http://bit.ly/2jk4O5s

Surrey Wildlife Trust hosts a number of activities  Details can be found at     http://bit.ly/2xSgx1l

Another organiser of walks is the Surrey Walks Club which has an annual membership of £10.

Again they have relatively easy short walks and longer walks with a range from 3 – 11 miles in length. These are often rather further afield from the Cobham area and throughout Surrey. Car share can be arranged through club contacts. The club also arranges trips for walks in other parts of the UK and even abroad.

Annual Heritage Walk

We have had great feedback from our five walks. We learn more about the history of Cobham each year. The walk takes in 14 listed buildings and a walk along the River Mole. We will be holding a walk in 2020 but it is liekely to be deferred to the Autumn before of the coronavirus outbreak.
